A comment to the above Post! - Very well written and so true.
For
someone like me being in a male dominated occupation (I'm an engineer
in a chemical plant), I have literally been sexually assaulted at work
and subsequently pink- slipped because I was labelled 'a distraction'
and also because complained to the ombudsman at the work place.
I wasn't going to give up what I love doing because my first work experience was soured by sexist pricks. I had moved abroad, and four years since, I find that my male colleagues take me seriously and appreciate me for the work I do and do not make dirty, third world comments behind my back. In fact, I am given equal pay and equal responsibilities as my male colleagues.Bottom line, society has to change. It will only begin when the men treat their wives in front of their children with respect, equality and dignity. Otherwise the male child will infer that it is right to treat a woman like a piece of meat, and the female child will infer that it is right to be treated as a piece of meat.
At least we, of this educated generation, will make a difference. hopefully.
