The is regarding the article " why hustle us into a marriage (open page, Aug 29th, 10)" portrays the exact state of girls across the country. A girl should be given the freedom to choose what she wants. This cannot be enforced by Law. Parents should understand and the change should come from them. Let us hope the article will change their minds of at-least a few parents who want to get their daughters married immediately after their graduation.
People talk of gender equality. Who are they to give women equality? Parents, by and large, think that if the family of a prospective groom does not demand dowry, it is supreme. They are ready to sacrifice their daughters at the alter of such families, irrespective of the other conditions. When a marriage does not last, the girl is emotionally shattered at a very young age.
